Way of the Roses Training

Dates for the training will be spaced through the month of September, there will be four rides. Dates now published, venues and routes to follow later.

Training Ride 1, Saturday 7 September.

Meeting Place, Consett FC (Consett FC)

Time, 9:45 for a 10 o’clock departure.

Route, a circular route taking in Knitsley Mill, Wilks Hill and Langley Park on the outward leg. Lunch will be at Aldin Lakes (tea, coffee and toilets available). After lunch the route takes in Witton Gilbert, Burnhope, Maiden Law and Stoney Heap, before finishing at Consett FC.

Distance, more than 30 miles (estimated duration is 6+ hours)

Note, bring along a packed lunch.

Training Ride 2, Saturday 14 September.

TR2 Stats

Meeting Place, Ebchester Village Hall.

Time, 9:15 for a 9:30 departure.

Route, north to Boundary Lane, Kiln Pit Hill, Carter Way Heads and lunch at Edmundbyers. After lunch the route takes in Muggleswick, Gold Hill Lane and Waskerley Farm (with maybe a late stop at Hownsgill cafe) before heading back to Ebchester.

Distance, probably 40 miles +/- (duration 7+ hours).

Note, bring along a packed lunch.

Training Ride 3, Friday 20 September.

Meeting Place, Hedley’s Cafe in Newburn ( Location of Hedley’s Café ).

Time, 9:15 for a 9:30 departure.

Route, to RaggyHeirlooms for tea/ coffee and then to Stamfordham, Ovingham, Bywell and Wheelbirks Cafe for lunch. After lunch the route returns to Newburn via Stocksfield and Wylam.

Distance, 40 miles (duration 7+ hours).

Note, food at Wheelbirks cafe.

Training Ride 4, Saturday 21 September.

Meeting Place, Lintzford Garden Centre, Rowlands Gill.

Time, 9:15 for a 9:30 departure.

Route, to the River Tyne at Derwenthaugh, before climbing Blaydon Burn to Winlaton and then on to Garesfield Golf Club via Barlow. Lunch at the golf club. After lunch the route heads back to Lintzford via Chopwell Woods.

Distance, just over 30 miles (taking 6+ hours).

Notes, lunch at Garfield Golf Club and I’ll be collecting bikes etc. at the end of this training ride.
