Training Ride 2 - Starting at Lintzford Mill and heading to Ebchester, Newlands, Whittonstall, New Ridley, Stocksfield, Bywell, Ovingham, Wylam, Dissington, Raggy Heirlooms (lunch), Medburn, Newburn, Dewenthaugh and Rowlands Gill.
Mistakenly published at being 35 miles, the actual milage rather surprisingly turned out to be just short of 47. The weather wasn’t particularly helpful, with rain being a constant partner for the first 4 1/2 hours. All that aside… here are a few photographs.
Training Ride 1 – Taking in… Newburn, Heddon, Dissington, Ovingham, Bywell, Stocksfield, New Ridley, Hedley, Coalburns and Wylam (Daniel’s Cafe).
One of the best Saturday rides for a long time, with good weather, fantastic views, ford crossings and some really steep hills all combining to make it a great success.
Headline Stats… total distance 35 miles, total height climbed 1,945 ft, highest point (Hedley) 850 ft, total time in the saddle (moving) 4 hours, Calorie burn (averaged) 2000+ .

Please Note, I will be redesigning the routes for the training ride program associated with this tour. This decision is taken directly as a result of the recce undertaken Thursday to Saturday, 13 – 15 April. I had originally based the training on information I’d gleamed from the official route profiles taken from the W2W website, I’ve concluded that clearly these are not sufficiently detailed to reflect the terrain I encountered. The W2W is not laden with major hills like the C2C, but it’s certainly not as flat as the route profile would have you believe, there’s a lot of ‘uphill and down dale’, lovely scenery though.
