Gateshead Girls -
Just back from a wonderful wet cycling tour in Holland. A great time was had by all in spite of the weather.. hail, rain, sleet, wind with a bit of sunshine thrown in. We kept warm by doing the hokey cokey & huddling together like penguins !!ยก Loads of culture was experienced….staying in a castle at Heemskerk with an opportunity to dress up like a knight or lady, super trip to Alkmaar cheese market & loads of flowers at Keukenhof gardens , Haarlem flower parade & cycling through the bulbfields. We enjoyed all the wonderful food & took every opportunity to eat as much cake as possible….this was helped by having two birthday celebrations.Neil’s planning and execution of the trip was without fault and there was no panic when faced with looking after a group member who was hurt during her free time & ‘Kings day close down’ All in all this trip has been full of fun, laughter, flowers and photo opportunities. The DFDS ferry trip was even better in commodore class….big thank you…it was a great holiday !!!! The Gateshead Girls (Marion, Irene,Anne & Sue)
Thanks for your feedback GG’s, other than the intervention of the weather on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I think we got through a packed agenda in good spirits. You’ll be interested to read that I searched in vain for a coffee shop near ‘the glass place’, it appears there never was one, Kevin must have been either day dreaming or interfered with I think. Neil
I endorse everything, the Gateshead Girls have written. What a fantastic week even with grotty weather! A big thank you to the whole group for making my birthday special! A very big thank you to Neal for all the “behind the scenes” organisation to make the holiday great.Very much appreciated. Vera
I agree with everything stated by GG’s and Vera. The commodore room certainly made a big difference to comfort on the ferry. Especially for an early to bed person like me! The weather was a challenge at times but overall did n’t dent the spirits.
We experienced lots of sights on this trip and enjoyed the serenity (mainly in the better weather!) that cycling in Holland offers. The Dutch are such friendly people too, adding to a pleasurable experience.
Many thanks to Neil for a well organised and executed trip again! Karen
My Holland trip was an experience, starting with the North Shields ferry. The Commodore accommodation was first class and so much food to choose from! Cycling along to Heemskirk was a delight and I enjoyed the hustle and crowds of the traditional cheese market. But for me, the Keukenhof gardens was a sight along with the bulb fields I will always remember. Never did I think at my age I would have done this. Neil’s skill at arranging it made it happen for me and others. A big thank you to Neil and Kevin for the help you gave us all.
I agree with every single comment written so far and not much I can add! Top marks for the varied programme of visits and activities (particularly the magic show and quiz)and such wonderful food throughout. Although the weather was disappointing, we could all still enjoy the beauty of Holland, its people and each others company. A big thank you to Neil for organising and managing it all despite a few challenges! Looking forward to the next trip.
